Heritage and Hulls: From A Carved Model to the Lofting Floor

Dates: February 19th - 23rd, 6-9pm

Class led by National Heritage Fellow and Master Shipwright Harold Burnham and EHSSM Executive Director KD Montgomery

Course Highlights:

Join us for an immersive 5-day course that demystifies the intricate process of ship design. Guided by Master Shipwright Harold Burnham and EHSSM Executive Director KD Montgomery, we'll break down the complexities of the traditional Essex design process, making it accessible to all participants.

You'll delve into the art of half hull carving, creating your own working model of the Sylvina W. Beal.

Then, you'll have the unique opportunity to lift the lines off your model, bridging the gap between theory and practice, while relating every step back to the lofting floor.

This hands-on experience provides a profound understanding of the design process.

Best of all, you'll take home your half model, a lasting connection to the knowledge and skills gained during the workshop and a tangible memento of your journey into lofting and design.
